ITB, UGM remain top two universities in Indonesia


JAKARTA. The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) remains the best university in Indonesia according to the Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry’s 2017 ranking of 3,320 such institutions across the country.

Trailing in second place is Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta. The Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) and University of Indonesia swapped places from the last year’s rankings, when they came in fourth and third places, respectively.

“The list is based on the quality of human resources, system management in the institution, student activities and scientific research and publication,” Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir said in a statement.

In a significant achievement, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) in Bandung, West Java jumped to the seventh position from 10th in last year’s ranking. Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta, Central Java also saw a noteworthy change as the university now ranks ninth, up from 12th place last year. (kuk)
