PRABOWO SUBIANTO - JAKARTA, Aug 25 - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 14 solar power plant projects on Tuesday with a combined capacity of 5.3 gigawatts, part of the country's goal to add 100 GW of new solar capacity by 2029 and reduce its dependence on climate-warming fossil fuels.

Of the 14 projects, two are already in operation, with six in the construction phase and another six to be offered to investors.
Total investment in the 14 projects is estimated at 135 trillion rupiah ($7.62 billion), said senior energy ministry official Eniya Listiani Dewi.
The government's target to build a total of 100 GW of solar power from 2026 to 2029 is estimated to require 1,140 trillion rupiah in investment.

The planned solar farms are estimated to slash electricity costs by 73.9 trillion rupiah annually by reducing production costs.
The government aims to shut down 13 GW of diesel-fired power and replace it with renewable energy.
