Indonesia Regulator Confirms Disruption at BP's Tangguh LNG Project

OIL AND GAS - JAKARTA. Indonesia's upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas confirmed there was an outage at the third train of BP's Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in West Papua, and said operations were expected to begin to restart from Saturday.

SKK Migas spokesperson Hudi Suryodipuro said on Thursday that a trip occurred at Train 3 Tangguh LNG on Nov. 16 due to instrumentation issues at an onshore receiving facility, triggering an emergency shutdown valve to close.

"After repairs by the BP team and startup was carried out, a leak was found in the actuator which required repair and replacement of parts," Hudi told Reuters.

The LNG train was expected to be restarted on Nov. 23 and it was estimated operations would be back to normal on Nov. 25, he said.

SKK Migas estimated the loss of production opportunity at 5,000 million standard cubic feet of gas and 20,000 barrels of condensate.

The third train of LNG Tangguh, which has a processing capacity of 3.8 million metric tons per year, was completed in July 2023. The train had a week-long outage earlier this year due to a broken component.

BP did not respond to a request for comment.
