Indonesia March 2024 Inflation Reaches 0.52%

ILUSTRASI. Inflation in March 2024 was primarily driven by inflation in the expenditure group of food, beverages, and tobacco.


INFLATION – JAKARTA. Indonesia's inflation condition in March 2023 has increased, compared to the previous month.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded, inflation in March 2024 was 0.52% on a monthly basis month on month (MoM), or higher when compared to the inflation condition in February 2024 which was 0.37% MoM.

Acting Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated, in March 2024 on an annual basis there was inflation of 3.05% or year on year (YoY). Meanwhile, inflation on a calendar year basis (March 2024 compared to December 2023) reached 0.93% year to date (YtD).

“The level of monthly inflation in March 2024, is relatively higher compared to the previous month and the same month last year,” said Amalia in a press conference, Monday (1/4).

Amalia explained, inflation in March 2024 was mainly driven by inflation in the group of food, beverage and tobacco expenditures. This group in February 2024 recorded inflation of 1.42% MoM with an inflation contribution of 0.41%.

Meanwhile, the main commodities contributing to inflation are broiler chicken eggs with a contribution of 0.09%, broiler chicken meat with a contribution of 0.09%, rice with an inflation contribution of 0.09%, as well as cayenne pepper with an inflation contribution of 0.02%, and garlic with an inflation contribution of 0.02%.

Then, in the group of food, beverages and tobacco, there are also several commodities that contribute to deflation. Among them, red chili and tomatoes with a deflation contribution of 0.2% each.
