KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. The Indonesian government has released a travel warning on Saturday for Indonesians planning to travel to Syria amid fears of escalating violence in the war-torn country.

The travel warning was issued following air strikes by the United States, British and French forces on Syria early on Saturday in response to a poison gas attack that reportedly killed dozens of people last week.

AFP's correspondent in Damascus reported that several consecutive blasts had been heard at 4:00 a.m. local time, followed by the sound of airplanes overhead. Smoke could be seen emerging from the northern and eastern edges of the capital.

Quoting a tweet from MoFA Indonesia, @Kemlu_RI, Indonesian citizens in Syria were urged to report themselves and to keep communicating with the Foreign Ministry at the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus.

The ministry also urged citizens to get updates from mobile app Safe Travel from time to time and to bring identity cards, passports and important telephone numbers when traveling.

In case of emergency, Indonesian citizens can contact the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus at +963 954444810, +963937021018 (hotline), +963116132578 (consular) and +62 812-9007-0027 (citizen protection hotline).
