JAKARTA. The House of Representative’s Honorary Council will investigate the report of an alleged ethical violation by speaker Setya Novanto and his deputy Fadli Zon for their presence at US presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign last week.
Honorary Council member Syarifuddin Sudding said on Monday that his team would soon look into the report filed by several legislators.
“We will check whether the agenda [attending one of Trump’s campaign events] was recorded in the [House] secretariat and whether there were violations,” Syarifuddin said as quoted by tempo.co.
Some legislators reported Setya and Fadli to the House’s Honorary Council earlier on Monday for their presence at US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign last week.
Setya and Fadli appeared at one of Trump’s campaign events on Sept. 3 after they and fellow legislators attended the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held by the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York, US.
“[Setya] visited, and then meet with Donald Trump – still wearing the DPR [House of Representatives] pin. That means they came as members of Indonesia's DPR,” said Charles Honoraris, a member of the House’s Commission I, which deals with foreign affairs.
