JAKARTA. Petroleum and chemicals distributor PT AKR Corporindo has committed to maintaining the stocks of its subsidized fuels at sufficient levels and keeping its gas stations open 24/7 in a bid to anticipate soaring demand for fuel during the upcoming Idul Fitri break season.
The company will maintain its subsidized diesel Solar dubbed AKRA Sol at a 32-day level, while its AKRA 92, which has a research octane number (RON) of 92, will be maintained at a level of 164 days during the holidays, which are usually marked by massive outflows of travelers..
“We have several gas stations located along Pantura [Java’s northern coastal area] highway,” AKR Corporindo director Mery Sofi said on Monday.
“All of outlets will be open 24/7 during the mass exodus season, especially within seven days before and after Idul Fitri [that will fall either on June 25 or 26].”
Last year, around 26 million people participated in the exodus, with some 5 million using private vehicles while the rest used various modes of public transportation.
Previously, state-owned energy giant Pertamina stated its commitment to maintain its stocks of Premium and Pertamax fuels, which have RON of 88 and 92, respectively, at a level of 24 days during the Idul Fitri break season.
It has forecast that demand for Premium and Pertamax will increase by 5 percent and 10 percent, respectively, compared to usual as people tend to use higher-grade fuels for long journeys out of town. (Viriya P. Singgih )
