JAKARTA. Despite its notorious image, the East Jakarta municipality has won awards in the “drug-free village” and “healthy school” categories for community development.
The awards were announced during an annual gathering involving local leaders, hundreds of Family Welfare Movement (PKK) members and public officials at Istora Senayan in South Jakarta, which was hosted by Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and wife Iriana on Sunday.
Six neighborhood units (RT) in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta; Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta; Kalideres in West Jakarta; Mampang Prapatan in South Jakarta; Utan Panjang in Central Jakarta; and Pulau Harapan in Thousand Islands regency also received awards.
Jokowi called on local leaders and PKK members to encourage residents to support the city administration in solving urban issues.
“Jakartans can’t only lean on the city administration and the governor [...] They all have to contribute to the efforts,” he said.
