JAKARTA. Law and Human Rights Deputy Minister Denny Indrayana reportedly slapped the face of a guard, identified as Darso Sihombong, during an impromptu inspection at Pekanbaru Penitentiary in Riau on Monday morning.
Denny was accompanied by several members of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). The incident was revealed by House Commission II chairman Agun Ginandjar on Tuesday.
Agun told kompas.com that he had been informed of the incident by the prison’s management. Agun claimed that he had verified the report with the Directorate General of Correctional Facilities. “The report is valid,” Agun claimed.
He added that he had documents detailing the incident from the Pekanbaru warden and the head of the Riau office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry.
Agun said he had passed the report on to Director General of Correctional Facilities Sihabuddin and Law and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin.
Agun added that Denny also harshly treated another officer, Maslan, who is in charge of the key to cells.
As the time of writing, Denny could not be reached for comment. (The Jakarta Post)
