JAKARTA. Coordinating Economic Minister Chairul Tanjung has been appointed as the acting energy and mineral resources minister, according to a recent presidential decree.
Presidential Regulation No. 77/2014, made available to journalists on Thursday, was signed by outgoing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sept. 9.
Under the decree, Chairul will temporarily serve in the role until the end of the term of Yudhoyono’s Cabinet. The ministerial post was left empty after former energy and mineral resources minister Jero Wacik was named a suspect in an alleged extortion case last week.
Chairul is scheduled to lead a high-level meeting at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry this afternoon.
