JAKARTA. A bridge on Jl. Peta Barat in Pegadungan subdistrict, West Jakarta, collapsed on one side Wednesday, causing two vehicles to be trapped in a 12-square-meter hole. No casualty was reported.

Dodi, 30, a local resident who witnessed the incident, said that a fertilizer truck running from Jl. Kalideres and a pick-up truck coming in the opposite direction were crossing the bridge when it collapsed.

“The bridge, which had submerged a little bit then suddenly collapsed when the two vehicles were passing over it. The vehicles almost fell into the Apuran River,” he said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Nur Hasan, 40, a local community unit leader, said that the bridge was built 40 years ago and that he never saw any maintenance work on it.

Police officers temporarily closed the street for evacuation, causing long lines of vehicles along the street connecting Jl. Kalideres and the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang, for several hours.
