CORPORATE STRATEGIC - JAKARTA. In 2024, PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) is completing an infrastructure project, this time the Bagong Dam located in Trenggalek, East Java. 

Muhammad Toha Fauzi, Director of Operations I Brantas Abipraya said, this dam will be multifunctional, and support irrigation in Trenggalek and its surroundings. 

“We are optimistic that we will complete this dam on time so that the people of Trenggalek and its surroundings can quickly feel its benefits. Later, this dam can increase the Irrigation Area (DI) in Trenggalek by 867 hectares,” said Muhammad Toha in a written statement received by Kontan.co.id, Tuesday (30/01).

Added Toha, the dam located in Sumurup and Sengon villages, 10 kilometers from the center of Trenggalek Regency, gets its water source from the Bagong River with a River Basin Area (DAS) of 39.95 square kilometers.

Designed with a zonal fill type, the Bagong Dam has a vertical core peak height of 82 meters and a length of 678 meters.

The Bagong Dam is projected to support raw water needs in Pogalan District, Trenggalek.

This is because the dam has a capacity of 17.40 million m3, in addition to this, the Bagong Dam also functions to reduce the water discharge of the Bagong River by 78.44% as well as the Bagong DAS and tourism potential.

Met separately, the President Director of Brantas Abipraya Sugeng Rochadi said this dam aims to fulfill the mission of food security and water resilience in the Government's National Strategic Program. 

Not only as a source of raw water, the Bagong Dam is a multipurpose dam that also serves as a flood control, source of irrigation area, source of power generation and also has the potential to become a new tourism destination.

“The construction of this dam is our effort in mitigating the water crisis and drought that occur in climate change. Sugeng Rochadi also said, in addition to the dam, Brantas Abipraya also builds reservoirs and irrigation networks,” concluded Sugeng.
