JAKARTA. The Blue Bird Group officially launched a taxi reservation application for BlackBerry smartphones on Tuesday to provide easier access for its customers.

The taxi reservation unfortunately will only be available in Jakarta and its surrounding areas for the moment. The application enables customers to order taxis, know the serial numbers of the reserved taxis and identify their whereabouts through their BlackBerry smartphones.

According to company spokesman Teguh Wijayanto, the public had shown high enthusiasm for the application. “Ever since they tried out the application last month, we have received more than 60,000 registrations,” he said.

The application can be downloaded for free from appsworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/41455.

In the future, the company also planned to develop reservation applications for smartphones produced by other phone makers, Teguh said.

The Blue Bird Group currently operates around 20,000 taxis in many major cities in the country, including Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Lombok, Semarang, Surabaya, Manado and Medan. (The Jakarta Post)
