BKPM Claim:  547,419 New Workers Employed in the First Quarter of 2024


From INVESTMENT, JAKARTA - The Ministry of Investment, also known as the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), reported that the realization of investment in the first quarter of 2024 reached IDR 401.5 trillion. This investment realization has absorbed 547,419 new workers in Indonesia.

Bahlil Lahadalia, the Minister of Investment or Head of BKPM, stated that out of the 547,419 new workers, the majority came from Foreign Capital Investment (PMA), accounting for 328,073 workers. The investment realization from PMA amounted to IDR 204.4 trillion, growing 15.5% YoY.

Furthermore, 219,346 workers came from Domestic Capital Investment (PMDN). The investment value from PMDN reached IDR 197.1 trillion, growing 29.7% YoY.

"The investment realization of IDR 401.5 trillion has absorbed 547,419 workers," Bahlil said in a press conference on Monday (29/4).

Bahlil also revealed the top five sectors of investment realization from PMA and PMDN. Among them, IDR 48.1 trillion was absorbed in the basic metal industry, metal goods, non-machinery, and equipment.

Then, IDR 47.9 trillion was absorbed in the transportation, warehouse, and telecommunications sectors. IDR 42.3 trillion was absorbed in the mining sector.

IDR 29.4 trillion was absorbed in the housing sector, industrial areas, and offices, and finally, IDR 29 trillion was absorbed in the food industry.

Furthermore, Bahlil added, that the investment realization in the first quarter of 2024, which reached IDR 401.5 trillion, is equivalent to 24.3% of the investment target set by President Joko Widodo this year, which is IDR 1,650 trillion.

The investment realization up to the first quarter of 2024 also grew by 2.21% compared to the same period last year and grew by 9.8% from the fourth quarter of 2023.
