JAKARTA. Former youth and sports minister Andi Mallarangeng will soon stand trial as Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators have announced that they have completed the case dossiers and have handed them over to the prosecutors.
"KPK prosecutors had14 days to study the dossiers before handing them over to the court," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Wednesday.
Andi, was detained in October last year after being a suspect for almost a year. He is accused of receiving bribes in the Hambalang Sports Centre construction graft case.
According to Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) calculations, the Hambalang graft case caused Rp 463.66 billion (US$38.9 million) of state losses.
The Hambalang sports facility is located in Bogor regency and was designed to be an international-standard sports-training center. The project was originally mooted by Andi’s predecessor, Adhyaksa Dault with an initial budget of around Rp 300 billion.
However, when the construction project began under Andi’s leadership, the budget ballooned to Rp 2.5 trillion.
Besides Andi, the KPK has also named former Democratic Party chief Anas Urbaningrum and ministry official Deddy Kusdina and PT Adhi Karya official Teuku Bagus Mukhamad Noor as suspects. (Haeril Halim)
