Ahok interviews young civil servants

JAKARTA. Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama has said that he will directly interview subdistrict heads and other young civil servants who are performing well to better understand their potential and see if they could fill strategic positions in the Jakarta city administration.

“I want to interview subdistrict heads and other civil servants recruited in 2010. Those who are good will be recruited to fill structural positions so that they will have dominant roles in the city bureaucracy,” Ahok was quoted by kompas.com as saying at City Hall on Thursday.

This is another move made by the city administration to try to reform the city's bureaucracy after previously introducing open recruitment for civil servants.

Ahok said that young civil servants could be promoted to hold higher level positions. According to the governor, many of those recruited in 2010 have held positions as heads of the one-roof integrated services (PTSP) in every subdistrict and district.

Ahok projected that the young civil servants could replace the older officials, who were not performing well.

He denied, however, that the young civil servants would be promoted to fill the II, III and IV echelon positions to be announced on Friday, but they may be prepared to take on those positions in February 2016.

“I will continuously interview potential civil servants. Next January and February, I will carry out a large-scale reshuffle. Those who are not performing well and are lazy will be replaced by young civil servants,” the governor said.
