Agency head questioned in Jakarta reclamation case

RECLAMATION - JAKARTA. The Jakarta Police questioned on Tuesday Jakarta Spatial Land Agency head Benni Agus Chandra as a witness in a possible graft case surrounding the Jakarta Bay reclamation project.

“We questioned him about reclamation regulations and details on the development of the islets,” head of the Jakarta Police’s special crimes unit, Sr. Comr. Adi Deriyan, said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

The unit has questioned officials from the city administration, but has yet to summon anyone from the developer, he said.

One-Stop Integrated Services Agency head Edy Junaedy is scheduled for questioning on Thursday.

Investigators claimed to have detected irregularities in the setting of Islet C’s and Islet D’s taxable value property (NJOP) of Rp 3.1 million (US$230) per square meter, considering that both islets were still empty.

The NJOP is based on independent assessments conducted by public auditors (KJPP), as mandated by Law No. 28/2009 on regional taxation and levies, and Bylaw No.16/2011 on land and building tax in rural and urban areas.

After the first NJOP is determined, the property value in the following years will be set by the city’s tax and levy board as market prices are already established.
