Actresses join Hanura women's wing

JAKARTA. Veteran actress Merriam Belina and pop singer Krisdayanti have joined the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) women’s wing, Srikandi Hanura.

Krisdayanti said she joined Hanura for its relatively clean image.

She said the party’s leaders and activists had never been implicated in graft.

Merriam said that although she was initially skeptical about joining a political party, she was convinced after learning that none of Hanura’s activists had been sent to jail for graft.

Also joining Srikandi Hanura is the wife of media baron Hary Tanoesoedibjo, Lilian Tanoesoedibjo. Lilian had been inaugurated as Srikandi Hanura’s honorary council chairperson.

Hanura was founded by former military commander Gen. (ret) Wiranto and is registered among the parties eligible to participate in the 2014 general elections.
