15 accidents, police check on Cipali toll road

JAKARTA. The police checked the condition of Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road, which has seen 15 traffic accidents and claimed three human lives following its inauguration by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on June 13, 2015.

“We from the police, Public Works and Housing Ministry and the local transportation agency in Purwakarta are carrying out an investigation into the accidents,” Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti said Monday.

He said the police and relevant authorities would investigate into whether the accidents had something to do with the road’s construction or something to do with human errors, in the sense that drivers drove their vehicles recklessly.

He also said the new toll road was expected to reduce traffic jams on the Pantura Highway on the eve of Idul Fitri, as had happened in the past.

More than 2 million travelers were expected to use cars in the next exodus to celebrate the Idul Fitri holiday at their homes in West, Central and East Java in the middle of July.
