11 regions hold revotes, says KPU

JAKARTA. As official vote recapitulation for the presidential election entered its sixth day, the General Elections Commission (KPU) has recorded that 11 regions conducted revotes due to alleged violations.

KPU commissioner Hadar Nafis Gumay said on Tuesday that the revotes were conducted after election field supervisors (PPL) found evidence of irregularities that occurred on election day .

“Most of the revotes were held because the PPL found that some people who voted were actually not allowed to vote. They also found incidences of people casting votes more than once, as well errors on the final voter list [DPT],” he said.

The 11 regions that held revotes were Kulon Progo in Yogyakarta, Bukittinggi in West Sumatra, Padang in West Sumatra, Indramayu in West Java, Cianjur in West Java, Majalengka in West Java, Buton in Southeast Sulawesi, Ambon in Maluku, Halmahera Tengah in North Maluku, Lampung and North Jakarta.

“Back-up ballots were used in the revotes,” Hadar said.

Besides the 11 regions, revotes were also scheduled to be held at two polling stations in Tangerang and South Tangerang, Banten.

At polling station number 20 in Pondok Pucung in Tangerang, 91 people cast their votes on election day by showing identification card (KTP) proof. However, the addresses on their KTPs did not match the address of the polling station. (ebf)
