NATURAL DISASTER/ EARTHQUAKE - JAKARTA. A 6.5 magnitude earthquake rattled the district of Garut in West Java on the evening of Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Initial reports from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) indicated a 6.6 magnitude tremor at 23:29:47 local time. This was later revised to a magnitude of 6.5.

The quake was felt in Jakarta, Depok, and Pamulang, South Tangerang.

The earthquake's epicenter was located at 8.42 degrees south latitude and 107.26 degrees east longitude, approximately 151 km southwest of Garut in West Java at a depth of 10 km. The BMKG stated that the earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.

Earlier, the BMKG had detected a 3.1 magnitude earthquake in the regions of Cianjur and Sukabumi on April 27, 2024.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the occurrence of a noticeable earthquake on April 27, 2024, at 20:22.

According to official information from the BMKG, the earthquake occurred at the coordinates of 6.83 degrees south latitude and 107.00 degrees east longitude. The epicenter was located 12 km northeast of Sukabumi city at a depth of 5 km.

The 3.1 magnitude earthquake was felt by residents in Cianjur and Sukabumi.

Earlier on April 27, 2024, the BMKG also recorded an earthquake felt by residents in the regions of Lebak, Tangerang, South Tangerang, South Jakarta, Bogor, and Sukabumi at 15:27.

The 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at the coordinates of 7.14 degrees south latitude and 105.35 degrees east longitude. The epicenter was located 58 km southwest of Sumur in the sea at a depth of 10 km.

Another earthquake occurred on April 27, 2024, at 12:07. The BMKG recorded the 4.7 magnitude earthquake originating from a depth of 63 km.

The 5.0 magnitude earthquake was felt by residents living in Boalemo, Gorontalo District, Bone-Bolango District, and Gorontalo City.
