Government accelerates land certification

JAKARTA. Government continues to accelerate land certification. It is expected that all lands in Indonesia will be certified by 2025.

Minister of Agrarian and Spatial/Head of National Land Agency Sofyan Djalil said that the government sets to issue certificates for 1.3 million lots of lands. "It is expected that the certification program will reach 5 million, 6 million, and 7 million lots of lands in 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively. The government expects to certify 10 million lots of lands in every year after 2019," said Sofyan.

In order to achieve the target of land certification, the Ministry will recruit private surveyors to involve in land surveying. To date, the Ministry is drafting regulation regarding the involvement of private land surveyors. "Next year, government will involve 2,500-3,0000 surveyors to assist people in land surveying so that they do not need to go to National Land Agency (for land surveying)," Minister Sofyan said.

Government also sets to relax the regulation on data collection. In the future, the certified private data collectors are allowed to involve in collecting agrarian data. However, there will be competence and license examinations for the private data collectors to involve in the process.

The program on the acceleration of land certification is included under the part VII of economic policy package.

Redistribution Program

Minister Sofyan Djalil said that the government is also preparing the program of land redistribution. According to the Minister, a lot of land, of which the cultivation right has been expired and could not be extended will be redistributed to the farmers, who previously had cultivated the land.

Researcher at The Institute For Ecosoc Rights Sri Palupi said that the agrarian reform is only a slogan during the two years of President Joko Widodo administration. According to Sri, government needs to spend extra efforts and find breakthrough solutions to realize the agrarian reform. (Translator: Muhammad Farid)
