JAKARTA. The Golkar Party said that it would be ready to allocate some seats in the leadership of the House of Representatives to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)-led coalition.

“We can certainly do that. That is not impossible,” Golkar senior politician Ridwan Bae said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Golkar said that the move, however, would have to be discussed with other members of the Red-and-White Coalition.

“We will have an internal discussion among members of the coalition,” Ridwan said.

The PDI-P-led coalition lost the race for the leadership of the House and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and risked not getting any seats in the leadership of commissions and other bodies in the House.

The Red-and-White Coalition has proposed increasing the number of commissions in the House, a move which many said was a horse-trading scheme aimed at dividing power among coalition elites.

The coalition is proposing there be 15 House commissions, up from the current 11.
