Four more cities to have LRT

LRT - PALEMBANG. Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the government will build Light Rail Transit (LRT) in four more large cities in the country.

"Priority will be given to Medan, Bandung, Makassar and Surabaya in LRT development," Minister Budi Karya said here on Monday (1/22).

LRT projects are being built in Jakarta and Palembang to facilitate transport of athletes in the coming Asian Games to be co-hosted by the two cities.

Budi said LRT will be needed by cities having a population of more than 2 million.

Earlier, the minister asked Saudi investors to take part in the construction of LRT in the country.

An LRT project will cost at least Rp 20 trillion, Budi said, adding other than Saudi Arabia, a number of other countries such as South Korea and China are also interested in building LRT in the country.

He said it is time for Indonesia to build LRT as LRT will guarantee punctuality in arrival time needed more at present.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Association Saudi Investors Habab Alhanaya said the association would utilize investment potentials in Indonesia.

Habab called for simplification of regulations to improve ease of doing business in the country.
