Two schemes of Agrarian Reform will run in 2017


JAKARTA. The government continues to run agrarian reform program. In 2017, the government will implement two schemes of agrarian reform.

Inspector General of the Ministry of Agricultural and Spatial Planning / National Land Agency Yuswanda A.Tumenggung said that the two schemes include the scheme of legalization of land assets and asset redistribution scheme.

In terms of assets legalization, said Yuswanda, thereĀ are about at least 4.5 million hectares (ha) of land to be legalized. Of that number, about 600,000 ha of lands are located in the area of transmigration. "While 3.9 million ha will be incorporated into the land certification program," said Yuswanda.

As an information, the government is also accelerating the land certification program, which is included in the Economic Policy Package VII that was released sometimes ago.

The program targets to certify an area of five million ha, seven million ha, and nine million ha of lands by 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively.

Meanwhile, for asset redistribution scheme, the government will distribute 4.5 million hectares of land to the public. Of that number, about 400,000 ha of lands are the area, of which the land use rights will not be renewed.

The government will also redistribute the released forest area to the public. Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, there are currently 4.1 million ha of forest land that would be released into the object of agrarian reform land (TORA). "The Ministry of Environment and Forestry is reviewing the releasing of forest area," said Yuswanda.

Access to banking
Agricultural and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil said, the government expects that the agrarian reform will benefit to public. Therefore, the related ministries and institutions expect that the distributed land may become assets, as well as access to banks and other financial institutions.

Sofyan said that, in this program the government will provide assistance to the people, who received the land use rights, to use the lands to improve their lives. (Muhammad Farid/Translator)
