JAKARTA. The tax revenues shortfalls as of September 2016 has led Directorate General of Taxation to intensify checking over personal taxpayers, mainly for those who allegedly have conducted tax offenses.
Director General of Taxation Ken Dwijugasteadi said that Directorate General of Taxation has aborted the verification over taxpayers’ data after government released tax amnesty policy in July 2016. However, this policy has not yet met the target of tax amnesty revenues.
Therefore, Directorate General of Taxation gave instruction to all regional tax offices to reopen the files of the taxpayers, mainly the personal taxpayers.
Head of Regional Office for Special Taxation M. Haniv said that starting from October 2016, the tax authority will continue to check the data of tax payers, who did not participate in tax amnesty.
The policy is expected to be effective in increasing tax revenues. Haniv claimed that tax payable contribute more revenues than tax amnesty. In order to support the policy, Directorate General of Taxation will refer to data from Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). By the first semester of 2016, PPATK has verified data of 2,393 taxpayers with estimated tax debt amounted to IDR 25.9 trillion.
Tax observes from Pelita Harapan University Ronny Bako said that government has to pursue both personal and corporate taxpayers. Moreover, some of foreign investment companies allegedly have never paid tax.
Ronny said that the slow economic growth has reduced tax revenues from corporate taxpayers. “Mainly companies from oil and gas, mining, and crude palm oil sectors," Ronny said.
Until 13 September, total number of tax revenues just amounted to IDR 656.11 trillion or 48.42% of tax revenues target set in 2016 Revised State Budget (APBNP 2016). (Translator: Muhammad Farid)
