Semen Indonesia sets IT business

JAKARTA. The biggest cement company in Indonesia PT Semen Indonesia Tbk (SMGR) will launch business expansion to information technology (IT) sector.

The state-owned enterprise SMGR through its subsidiary PT Sinergi Informatika Semen Indonesia will develop enterprise resources planning (ERP) of the application for synergizing systems of work in a company. The application will enter the markey under the label of Forca ERP.

According to SMGR, the product will have huge market potential at the segment of middle enterprises. To date, a lot of domestic companies have not yet applied ERP due to the high cost for applying the system. Recently, most of the ERP applications are operating under international brands, such as Oracle and SAP.

Chief Executive Officer of PT Sinergi Informatika Semen Indonesia Adel Rahardi said that the company targets to sell the product to at least 50 companies in 2017.

The company is likely to meet the target, at least to the segment of state-owned enterprise (SOE). Currently, about 150 SOEs have not yet implemented ERP system so that SMGR can synergize its business with other SOEs.

Sinergi Informatika Semen Indonesia aims to gain up to IDR1 trillion of revenues from the business by the next three to four years. “The recent Semen Indonesia’s income is IDR30 trillion so that Sinergi Informatika Semen Indonesia will contribute to 3%-4% of the income”, Adel said.

Semen Indonesia does not have to invest a huge amount of funds in the business. At the first phase, the IT business only needs an IDR1 billion of investment.  In this project, Sinergi Informatika has invited Telkom Sigma to develop data server under the cloud system. Sinergi itself has owned data center in Jakarta and Surabaya.

Adel claimed that Sinergi Indonesia will offer a service with the price, which is much lower than IDR30 billion of price provided by foreign companies for the similar product.  He did not specify the exact price, however, Adel estimates that price is ranging at millions of rupiah.

To date, Sinergi Informatika’s market targets are still limited at the segments of service, manufacture, mining, and trade sectors.  In the future, the company will aim at the segment of financial service. Furthermore, the company will develop partnership with non-business sector, such as academics.
