KPK slaps travel ban on two people

JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has requested that the immigration directorate general issue travel bans on two people in relation to a bribery case implicating a Jakarta councilor.

A travel ban was issued for property giant Agung Sedayu Group chairman Aguan Sugianto on Sunday following the arrest by the KPK of Jakarta councilor Mohamad Sanusi from the Gerindra Party.

"The KPK requested (travel bans) for two people, one of them with the initial S," Immigration director general Ronny F. Sompie said on Monday as reported by kompas.com.

Ronny refused to name the person, saying it was the KPK's prerogative to announce it.

However, KPK spokeswoman Yuyuk Andriati said the commission had requested travel bans for Aguan Sugianto and PT Agung Podomoro Land president director Ariesman Widjaja. Ariesman turned himself into the KPK on Friday night.

The case came to light when KPK investigators allegedly caught Sanusi red-handed accepting Rp 1.1 billion to sway City Council deliberations of a regulation on a draft bill on reclamation projects in Jakarta Bay. The bribe was allegedly paid by Triananda Prihantoro, an employee of Agung Podomoro Land through a middleman named Gerry.
