Deddy Mizwar most popular in Indo Barometer survey

BANDUNG. A survey by pollster Indo Barometer shows West Java Deputy Governor Deddy Mizwar is the most popular gubernatorial candidate.

Indo Barometer executive director M. Qodari said his popularity did not necessarily mean that Deddy had the highest probability of winning the June 2018 West Java gubernatorial election for the 2018-2023 period.

“The electability of Ridwan Kamil [Bandung mayor] is the highest, standing at 93.9 percent,” he said in Bandung on Thursday.

Conducted from Feb. 27 to March 7, the survey involved 800 respondents in 27 regencies and cities across West Java. The survey’s margin of error is 3.46 percent and confidence level 95 percent.

Qodari further explained that according to the survey, public satisfaction with Deddy’s performance as deputy governor stood at 42.5 percent only. “Usually, if the level of satisfaction of an incumbent candidate is below 50 percent, he or she will likely lose the election,” he said.

The survey also shows several names were on the minds of respondents as gubernatorial candidates. Ridwan stands on top with 25.3 percent, followed by Deddy with 19.3 percent. Former West Java deputy governor Dede Yusuf stands third with 14.2 percent, followed by Purwakarta Regent Dedi Mulyadi (8.1 percent) and Bogor Mayor Arya Bima (1.9 percent). Meanwhile, 31.3 percent of the respondents had not decided on a preference or refused to answer the question.

Ridwan is the only one who has openly declared his interest in running in the West Java gubernatorial election.
