Jl. Setiabudi Tengah closed by Greater Jakarta LRT construction

INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS - JAKARTA. Starting on Monday, Jl. Setiabudi Tengah in Central Jakarta is to be closed for eight months to provide room for the construction of the Greater Jakarta LRT.

The closure is to last until Feb. 28, 2020 as the foundation pillars for the commuter railway are to be 12 meters wide, taking up space on the street.

Road blockades and traffic cones have already been placed on the street. In addition, a notice sign has been posted on location to inform drivers not to use the street.

The construction of the Dukuh Atas part of the LRT starts from the side of the Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto overpass in Central Jakarta and goes to the Dukuh Bawah (Landmark Tower) area in South Jakarta.

Traffic coming from Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta heading to Rasuna Said, South Jakarta is to be redirected to take Jl. Margono Djoyokusumo and Jl. Galunggung in the Dukuh Bawah area and Jl. Jendral Sudirman, Jl. Setiabudi Raya and Jl. Setiabudi 3 in the Setiabudi area.

Another option is to use the Jl. Alternatif Galunggung and make a U-turn before the Jl. Halimun traffic lights, which then leads to Jl. Gembira and Jl. HR Rasuna Said.

On the other hand, traffic from Rasuna Said going to Tanah Abang or Sudirman is to be redirected to Jl. HR Rasuna Said, Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto, Jl. Sumenep and Jl. Latuharhari, where it should turn right at the Halimun traffic lights to Jl. Galunggung and Jl. Margono Djoyokusumo.

The acting head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Sigit Wijatmoko, said Jl. Setiabudi is to be open again after the end of February, but it would operate only as a one-lane street.

To anticipate the congestion the detours might cause during rush hour, the agency is to post a number of its officers along the alternative streets.

“We have prepared an alternate route to ensure the mobility of traffic will remain undisrupted. We will also assign our staff to control the traffic in the proximity,” Sigit said as reported by wartakota.tribunnews.com on Monday.
