TOURISM - JAKARTA. The Jakarta Transportation Agency plans to revitalize three docks in Thousand Islands regency next year to support local tourism.

The agency would focus on revamping the docks on Pramuka, Kelapa and Sebira islands, its acting head, Sigit Wijatmoko, said.

“We are completing the detail engineering design and will start constructing the three docks in 2019,” he added on Thursday as reported by tempo.co.

The agency is aiming to revamp the docks according to each island’s level of importance.

Sigit said Pramuka was the regency’s administration center, while Kelapa was the center of transportation. As for Sebira, it is located in the northern part of the regency, which needs to upgrade its transportation service.

The agency had prioritized 10 docks that needed to be revamped, he added.

The revitalization projects include adding facilities to them, repairing lamps and roads as well as improving operational management.

“Our focus is to manage all them, from an operational aspect to management as well as how to increase service coverage,” Sigit said.

The agency plans to integrate all of the islands’ docks in the regency into one system. It will also stop the construction of unregulated docks by locals.

The revitalization initiative forms part of the regency’s plan to develop the tourism sector on the islands that is located in Jakarta Bay.
