BURSA EFEK INDONESIA / BEI - JAKARTA. The collapse of the mezzanine floor above the lobby of Tower 2 at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) building, has raised many questions regarding the safety and structural integrity of the building that hosts Indonesia’s capital market hub.

Tower 2 was built in 1997.

“There have not been any renovations since then,” said Farida Riyadi, director of Cushman & Wakefield Indonesia, which manages the building, as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

Farida also said as part of care measures, the building management conducted periodical checks of the building.

“The last check was done in May 2017,” she said.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the temporary functional feasibility certificate (SLF) for the IDX building would expire on Jan. 25. The issuance of the certificate meant there was nothing wrong with the structure of the building, including the mezzanine floor, which has collapsed.

The mezzanine floor of Tower 2 collapsed at around 12 pm on Monday. The accident left 77 people injured.
