Telkom doubles target of new IndiHome subscribers

JAKARTA. State-owned telecommunications company Telekomunikasi Indonesia ( Telkom ) has doubled its new subscribers target for its triple play service ( internet, TV, and home phone ), Indihome, from 20 million to 40 million in 2020.

The company will cooperate with home builders and developer associations to boost the new subscriptions of Indihome,  Telkom customer service director Dian Rachmawan said. There will be revenue sharing agreements between Telkom and the developers.

"If we build using Telkom's money alone we estimate to reach 20 million customers in 2020, but if we are working with other parties we can double it," he told thejakartapost.com in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Starting in the second half of 2016, he further explained, any developer or building management that had at least 500 houses or apartments could work with Telkom to build the fiber optic infrastructure for Indihome and manage the billing.

Dian said several big developers had committed to join the cooperation such Summarecon, Pakuwon and Agung Sedayu.

"It is like a franchise. They build the infrastructure, transfer it to us, we operate it with a profit sharing mechanism. We will begin to list the partners in the second half of the year and hope to start installation in 2017," he said.

Currently, the number of Indihome customers is 1.5 million. On average, it takes US$300 in investment to build a new fiber optic network for a subscriber. A joint effort with developers will reduce the cost, both for subscribers and for Telkom. (Anton Hermansyah)
