Pertamina boss wants to solve issues over lunch

JAKARTA. Newly appointed president director of state-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina Elia Massa Manik has emphasized the need to establish a unified board of directors, starting from the lunch table.

He underlined the need for unity, insisting it was the only way Pertamina would be able to reach its goal of becoming a world-class energy company by 2025.

“If we cannot become a solid unit, I will have failed. As leaders, we must be able to set an example for our subordinates […] this is why I have asked my friends [on the board] to have lunch together if they are at the office, so that we can discuss and solve issues over lunch,” he said during a meeting with House of Representatives Commission VII overseeing energy on Thursday (23/3).

The former president director of state plantation firm PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN III) was officially appointed Pertamina’s new chief after the previous president director and deputy president director were suddenly dismissed more than a month ago.

The government announced on Feb. 3 the dismissal of president director Dwi Soetjipto and vice president director Ahmad Bambang over concerns of a lack of teamwork and escalating conflict. (tas)
