Police to begin ticketing using CCTV

DKI JAKARTA - JAKARTA. The Jakarta Police Traffic Management Directorate will start an operation to ticket vehicles by detecting violators via CCTV cameras on Monday.

The ticketing scheme was officially put in motion after last week, when the police obtained a permit from the Jakarta High Court, the Central Jakarta District Court and the South Jakarta District Court.

"We can start the operation. We will send the ticketing letter directly to the homes of the violators based on the address on the vehicles’ registration certificate," Jakarta Police Traffic Management Director Sr. Comr. Halim Pagarra said on Sunday as quoted from wartakota.tribunnews.com.

The officers will supervise traffic through CCTV monitors. If a driver violates the rules of the road, such as running a red light or driving against the flow of traffic, the vehicle’s license plate number will be captured and printed as evidence.

Even though the scheme will include vehicles from Greater Jakarta, the directorate is only focusing the system on vehicles registered under Jakarta’s administration.

"So far we have installed 800 CCTV cameras, and we will keep coordinating with the Jakarta Transportation Agency to install more devices in several spots in the city," Halim said.

He also expected the cameras’ quality to be improved so they could zoom in and out as well as pan and tilt in various directions.
