JAKARTA. Jakarta and other cities across Indonesia are set to hold National Discount Day (HBD Indonesia) as a way to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Indonesia.
“Other than offering shopping discounts, HBD Indonesia will also host other events, such as flag ceremony by the members of Indonesian Shopping Centers Tenants Association [Hippindo], Independence Day competitions and Jember Fashion Carnaval [JFC] that we’ve invited to perform in Jakarta on Aug. 15-17 at the Gambir Expo,” said HBD Indonesia committee head Fetty Kwartati.
Fetty added that HBD Indonesia would be held in shopping centers in cities across the archipelago, from malls to shop houses, even at the airports, from Aug. 17 to 20.
As it is the nation’s 72nd anniversary, the promotions will be associated with the number 72, such as 72 percent discount or special price of Rp 72,000 or buy 2 items with only Rp 72,000.
“There’ll also be a shopping festival called ‘Happy Birthday Indonesia Festival’ that will be held from Aug. 15 to 27 at the Gambir Expo in JI-Expo Kemayoran, Jakarta,” Fetty added.
HBD Indonesia aims to attract 20 million shoppers and become the nation’s biggest shopping, culinary, music and entertainment festival that is joined by more than 200 companies that oversee 500 local and international brands.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya lauded the collaboration between the event and JFC, “This is a mutual collaboration. JFC is very famous here; it has a world-class reputation and has been consistent for 16 years, hence the reason why Jember is worthy to be called a Carnival City. JFC has long inspired other carnivals in the country."
Several awards that JFC has earned in the past include Best National Costume Miss International 2014 in Tokyo, Japan; Best National Costume Miss Supranational 2014 in Warsaw, Poland; Best National Costume Miss Universe 2014 in Florida, United States; Best National Costume Miss Supranational 2015 in Warsaw, Poland; Best National Costume Miss Grand International 2016 in Las Vegas, US; and Best National Costume Miss Tourism International 2016 in Malaysia.
