King Salman gets warm welcome in Bogor

JAKARTA. Amid heavy rain showers that had poured down since the morning, Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud enjoyed a warm welcome from all staff members of the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

A horse cavalry and a marching band parade presented by Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) personnel were held to demonstrate the gracious hospitality of the Indonesian government in welcoming the seventh Saudi Arabian king.

The marching band performed the national anthems of the two countries as King Salman arrived at the palace at around 1:55 p.m. Around 50,000 students wearing traditional Indonesian and Saudi Arabian clothes from elementary schools across Bogor cheered the king during the ceremony.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s plan to take King Salman for a tour around the Bogor Palace on a golf buggy was cancelled because of the rain. The king was finally shown the beauty of the palace grounds by car.

Delegations of the two countries were scheduled to have a bilateral meeting during Wednesday’s visit. The meeting will be followed by the signing of 10 memoranda of understanding (MoU) over the next few days of King Salman’s visit, according to the Saudi Arabian Embassy
