Govt to grant land concession to people


JAKARTA. The equal land ownership is included under the government’s programs on fair economic policy. President Joko Widodo said, the government will grant land concession to the people, not to the corporates, to reduce the gini ratio.

According to President Joko Widodo, the land concession will be distributed to the people through the mechanism of asset redistribution and agrarian reform. For an example, to date the concessions of about 300,000-500,000 ha lands are granted to major companies. In the future, the concessions will be transferred to the people.

The concession grant is expected to encourage the partnership between the major companies with the people. This is subsequently expected to create an equal economy.

According to President Joko Widodo, the government will redistribute the concessions of 12.7 million ha lands to the people. Even, some land utilization licenses had been granted in some regions in Kalimantan.

Director General of Spatial at Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Budi Situmorang added, the government actually had started running agrarain reform since the last year. Recently, the government is ready to distribute about 4.1 million ha lands to the people. The plots of land are part of 12.7 million ha forest areas, which will be redistributed and converted to social forestry areas.

Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) Joko Supriyono said, to date the palm oil companies have implemented cooperation with the community in terms of land management through the scheme of core-plasma. Even so, Gapki asking the government to make additional rules to encourage farmers to be more developed. Thus, "Therefore, the relationship between the plasma and the core is not limited only on buying and selling," he said.

Member of Commission IV of DPR (the House of Representatives) Firman Soebagyo suggests the government to reinforce the rules to realize the land equitable. For an example, the government may revoke the ineffective land utilization license and subsequently transfer the license to other parties that are ready to utilize the land.
