Government, idEA team up to list e-commerce player

E-COMMERCE - JAKARTA. The Communications and Information Ministry and the Indonesia E-Commerce Association (idEA) teamed up on Thursday to list digital-economy players, including e-commerce, to assure the government had a valid database.

“With the data, we can provide incentives to certain [digital economy] companies." Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara said during the inauguration of the interoperability registration system for electronic business operators in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s information director general, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, said such data would also help the government supervise activities related to the digital economy to prevent fraud and hoaxes.

"In this digital era, we carry out transactions without meeting face to face. So we need all the data of the operators," he said.

Through the program, idEA members and non-members can register through the association’s website.

The ministry’s e-business director, Azhar Hasyim, said the government had selected idEA to partner with in developing the database because the association had about 300 active members.

Azhar said the government would also cooperate with other associations and organizations, including the Press Council, for example, to account for the number of digital media platforms in the country.

idEA chairman Aulia E. Marinto welcomed the cooperation, saying it would help idEA members access the government program.

"Once the government has a program, it will be easier to reach players because the government already has the data," said Aulia. (bbn)
