Domestic air traffic reach 7.1 million in April


JAKARTA. The number of domestic air passengers in Indonesia rose by 1.90 percent to 7.1 million in April, from 6.99 million a month earlier, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

The number of domestic air passengers at the Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar jumped 11.20 percent, at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta, it was up 2.64 percent and at Juanda Airport in Surabaya, it rose by 0.20 percent, BPS Chief Suharyanto said in a press briefing here on Friday.

Compared with March this year, the number of international-bound passengers also went up by 1.76 percent to 1.4 million in April, he added.

Cumulatively, the number of domestic air passengers during the first four months of 2017 increased by 11.4 percent to 27.8 million and the number of international-bound passengers jumped 14.18 percent to 5.4 million, compared with the same period last year.

BPS also recorded a 3.72 percent rise in the number of domestic passengers traveling by sea to 1.3 million in April, up from 1.20 million in the previous month.

However, the amount of goods carried by ships in April fell 0.06 percent to 20.9 million tons, compared with March.

Cumulatively, the number of passengers carried by ships during the January-April period dropped 1.03 percent to 4.9 million, compared to the same period last year and the amount of goods transported by ships increased 1.95 percent to 82.6 million tons.
