Anti-graft body ready to appoint new advisers

JAKARTA. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has selected three candidates, who have all passed the anti-graft body's final selection phase in February, for appointment to its Advisory Council in early July.

The commission had decided on the three new advisors, but had not yet released their names, said KPK commissioner Alexander Marwata on Thursday (29/6).

“The inauguration [of the new Advisory Council members] is scheduled for July 6," said Alexander, noting that the inauguration was set for the day before the KPK's Idul Fitri gathering, or halal bi-halal.

He explained that the new KPK advisors had expertise in the areas of administrative law, state finance and information technology, and that they had been selected for their expertise.

“We hope he or she can help the KPK in developing a computer-based system that can also be used by the government,” Alexander said.

An independent committee of academics and activists appointed by the KPK made the selection from among 3,256 applicants to fill the three positions, which had been vacant since April 2015. (kuk/bbn)
